Hides were painted by Indians to depict important events in their lives. This hide is painted with a design of infinite concentric circles of the universe representing the spiritual essence of one Great Spirit overseeing the earth, sky, fire and water. Sheep wool and beaded tassels are wrapped on a cedar stick, with the hide laced to the stick. Strands of horsehair, Cowry shells, and beaded medalions accent the starburst. No two are alike.
