The button in the center of the mirror can be pressed to activate the different lighting levels. The item works great. This item comes with a USB-A charger to charge up the mirror on the go. You can press the on-off button and hold it to adjust the light level once you've selected a setting. To get the levels to change, I found that you need to press the button in a short motion like you're poking it instead of a long press.
