Tracks: Trio For Piano, Violin And Cello, No. 6 In B-Flat Major, Op. 97, ?Archduke? About The Record: Plays Beethoven's Archduke Trio, by Istomin, Stern, Rose Trio, features a renowned performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Trio in B-flat major, Op. 97, commonly known as the Archduke Trio. This recording, released in 1966 by Columbia/CBS Masterworks, showcases the exceptional synergy of pianist Eugene Istomin, violinist Isaac Stern, and cellist Leonard Rose, who performed together for 28 years (1955-1983) and left a lasting legacy in chamber music. Historically significant, the trio's interpretation of Beethoven's work, composed in 1811 and dedicated to Archduke Rudolph of Austria, is considered one of the greatest, especially notable during the 1970s celebrations of Beethoven's 200th birthday when they recorded his complete string trios. The album captures the Archduke Trio's sweeping grandeur, with its extended form and powerful architecture, distinct from Beethoven's more dramatic works like the Fifth Symphony. As a chamber music piece, this album does not feature hit singles in the traditional sense, as individual movements are not released or charted like popular music singles.
