Japanese Sumida-gawa Porcelain Pottery Bowl 4 Mudmen Pearl Divers Late Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) This piece bears the signature plaque of Inoue Ryosai. With four mudman figurines peering into bowl depicted as a landscape with drip glaze waterfalls Around 1875, potter Inoue Ryosai, who had previously been working in Seto, formed a relationship with pottery dealer Shimada Sobei. They established a kiln in the Asakusa district and began making very distinctive art wares Measures 8 1/2" at widest point. About 3" at one of the figurines top of head. Pictures 11 12 showing small chip.
