The inserts are tapered half way through to prevent the bolt from easily coming loose/turning out after it is threaded in. Generally after about four or five turns it becomes ?tough? to thread in the rest of the way but as long as they are properly inserted and not ?cross threaded? they will go in if guidelines above are followed. A little lubricant (WD, anti-seize, ect.) will help.
