Descripción del Artículo

Vintage original 27x41 in. US single-sided one-sheet poster from the classic 1980's Russian immigrant-themed comedy/drama romance, MOSCOW ON THE HUDSON, released in 1984 by Columbia Pictures and directed by Paul Mazursky. A Russian saxophonist visiting New York with a circus troupe suddenly decides to defect from the USSR during a shopping trip to a department store, but he finds adjusting to American life more difficult than he imagined. The cast includes Robin Williams, Maria Conchita Alonso, Alejandro Rey, and Cleavant Derricks. This poster features beautiful artwork that was designed by Craig (his signature appears beneath the bent right elbow of actor Cleavant Derricks) and was done in the style that was popular during the 1970's/1980's for commercially-sold maps of famous world cities. Unrestored and rolled as originally issued, this vintage original one-sheet is in very fine- condition with only random signs of wear along portions of the edges and bottom corners. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws. This poster, which was an aerial view of New York City, was the subject of a successful civil lawsuit from artist Saul Steinberg. Steinberg sued alleging that the movie poster infringed the copyright of his renown 1976 ink, pencil, colored pencil, and watercolor on paper, "View of the World from Ninth Avenue," an illustrative cover of the March 29, 1976 edition of The New Yorker magazine [See Case: Steinberg v. Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc., 663 F. Supp. 706 (S.D.N.Y. 1987)]. Director Paul Mazursky spent a year's preparation on this movie by speaking with Russians living in the U.S., as well as ones still living in the then Soviet Union in Kiev, Moscow and Leningrad. In preparation for his role, for about a year, lead actor Robin Williams studied Soviet customs and learned the Russian language. Reportedly, Williams spent five hours a day learning Russian and had learned to speak it well within a month. By the time of principal photography, Williams was at a proficiency level where he could carry on a conversation. William's teacher was a Russian actor called David.
