Descripción del Artículo
Marceline - An Open Letter to My Dad / (Same song on reverse side). Ion Records 1-102 monoraul 7" 45 rpm record. Also included is an original press release from the Ion Record Co. announcing the song as "an eloquent plea for peace" and a followup letter signed by a Ion Record company executive later apologizing for releasing the record due to its controversial lyrics. Also included is a copy of a letter of complaint to the company from a Maine radio station. This is a spoken word song with a music background. Released 1967. Condition: Record is VG++. Comments: "An Open Letter to My Dad" was an answer song to a nationwide hit song called "An Open Letter to My Teenage Son" by Victor Lundberg who expresses a conservative approach to the Vietnam War, hippies and patriotism. The Ion Records release of Marceline's "An Open Letter to My Dad" took the opposite approach and condemns the war and needless napalming of innocent children. A series of three letters between a Maine radio station disc jockey and an Ion Records executive includes a signed, personal apology from the company stating in part, "This is a very hard letter for me to write as I know we did a great injustice to all right thinking Americans by releasing such a reord as Ion 1-102 by Marceline. We apologize...I am afraid we were unduly influenced by the writer and did not screen this material as we should have...We realize this was a big mistake in releasing such a record and we accept the fact that we can not be criticized too harshly...I very humbly apologize again for this release, but also know we have no excuse except stupidity..."
