Reading from left to right they are Emil Cooper, conductor, Charles Kull-man, Eleanor Steber, General Manager Edward Johnson, Derso Ernster, Pierrette Alarie, John Carter, Herbert Graf, stage director, and Hugh Thompson. We are glad to offer an analysis of the Seraglio by Herbert F. Peyser, the scholarly critic of Musical America, and a further discussion of Mozart's Turkish music by Paul Nettl, who is now teaching at the University of Indiana in Bloomington. The fact that Mozart's father did not attend the premiere of the Seraglio, in Vienna, made it natural for the composer to send a series of letters home to Salzburg describing his intentions in writing the music. We are glad to print excerpts from these for the benefit of our readers who do not possess a copy of the collection. Issued weekly during the Opera Season and fortnightly in the Spring and Fall by THE METROPOLITAN OPERA GUILD 654 MADISON AVENUE, NEW YORK, N. Y. CONTENTS. NAMES, DATES AND PLACES.
