?????????????????????????
Here we have a vintage wooden duck decoy, specifically modeled after a mallard hen (female mallard duck and traditionally used in waterfowl hunting to attract live ducks by mimicking a resting or feeding bird on the water.
It's hand-carved from wood (likely balsa or cedar, based on the lightweight hollow construction and texture), with a uniform brown paint job that's worn and chipped from age and use?typical for working decoys rather than purely decorative ones.
The head is removable (attached via a simple wooden dowel for easy storage or transport), and the bottom features a metal strip screwed in as ballast to help it sit upright and stable when floating.
Condition
No obvious maker's marks are visible with the exception of a rectangular green square as can be seen in the photos - appears to be a remnant of the original manufacturer's label or an inventory tag.
In its current condition (good but showing age with paint loss and no identified elite maker like Mason or Elliston
