Descripción del Artículo

Antique Privately-Made Real Photo Stereoview. Reverse side reads, "Looking over the lake to Mt. Major Pumpkin Pt. (New Hampshire) on opposite shore. Art Boynton was with me." This is a single card, being sold separately, from a family collection. See below for additional information. Condition: Stereoview is in very good condition. Additional Information: This stereoview is part of a collection of homemade, privately-issued images belonging to a New Hampshire family, headed by Edward E. Carlton. He was born October 29, 1860 in Farmington, New Hampshire. He served as postmaster of Farmington until his retirement in 1898. His wife was Gertrude E. Smith. Their son was William Robert Carlton, born October 10, 1887 in Farmington, married Etta Boynton in approximately 1910, and died in 1972 in New Hampshire. We know from a couple of the images that he was the photographer of these stereoviews, although his father may have also taken some. W.R. Carlton was found with his wife Etta and family living in Hampden County (Springfield), Massachusetts in the 1920 Census. They lived at 125 Harvard St. Some of the family members and friends featured in the various images (all sold separately) include: Arthur H. Boynton (described on the back of one card as "my mother's brother") who was born in 1887 in Massachusetts and married to Stella Boynton. Also Betty Carlton, Etta Carlton, Susan Carlton, Julia R. Carlton, Judy Carlton, and E.E. (Edward E.) Carlton. Others featured included "Uncle Charlie Roberts" (described as "Nanna's youngest brother" and also as the "son of General Roberts"), Elsie Strout, Mrs. Evelyn Tower, and Darby Field. Most of the photos in the collection were taken in locations identified within the state of New Hampshire where the photographer had visited.
