New! Angels Proclaim the Birth of Jesus ? Christmas ? Nicolaes Pieterszoon Berchem ? Beautiful Catholic Artwork ? Archival Quality This is the scene of the Gloria we say at Mass. It is from Luke 2:8-14: "Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger."And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: 'Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.'" (www.uscb.com)Nicolaes Pieterszoon Berchem (1621/1622-1683) did this beautiful painting. He was one of the Dutch Masters. He was renowned in his day for pastoral landscapes with Biblical themes. In this one, the Star of Bethlehem is lighting the scene. The shepherds are sore afraid, and behind them is the Holy Family in the manger. The two women between them we think represent the wise and foolish virgins, one who has fallen asleep, as a reminder to us all to stay vigilant, for we know not the hour of His coming. This picture has a "Hudson Valley" look to it, like the American landscape paintings of the 19th Century, which we greatly enjoy. 1649. Oil on canvas. 85 x 123 inches. Housed at the Hermitage. ** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Let us know if you would like a custom print of this with different margins. Fine art printers print with margins because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt. - Acid-free paper- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.- Cardboard backer- Above story of the art- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
