This is an unusual cup and saucer set from Otagiri. With a capacity of only 5 ozs., the mug is smaller than a normal coffee cup but it is larger than a demitasse or espresso mug. So, I'm not sure how to classify it. Although it is not marked, I think it is hand painted stoneware. The main color is dark blue. Both cup and saucer have what appear to be hand painted stripes in a dark slightly metallic charcoal or pewter shade. Both pieces have a shiny glaze. The saucer is marked with a copyright symbol and "Otagiri Japan" on the bottom. The cup is unmarked. The cup stands about 2-3/4" tall and has a rim diameter of 2-7/8". The diameter of the saucer is 5-5/8". Both are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. They show almost no signs of use at all.
