PoE (Power Over Ethernet) is a technology that allows transfer of electrical power, along with data, over twisted pair cables. Finding a power supply is a common obstacle in LAN installations: PoE allows you to power wireless access points or other equipment via a Cat 5 cable without the need to have a separate power source available. You simply connect a power supply of the required voltage via the 2.1mm DC connector, then tap it where you need it at the other end.
