Vintage original 80 x 90 in. "country of origin" UK 12-sheet poster from the 1930's WWI-themed spy drama, SECRET LIVES, released in the UK in 1938 by Associated British Film Distributors and directed by Edmond Greville. A German-born woman works as a spy for the French in Switzerland during the First World War and has to marry an interned French lieutenant in order to be able to stay in the country. The design features stylized artwork depicting German-born Lena Schmidt (Brigitte Horney), who is working as a spy for the French in Switzerland, as she and two men are forced to show their papers to an officer while another officer stands guard. Unrestored and folded as originally issued, it is in near-fine condition with small chips of varying sizes along the top border; light signs of wear around the top row of horizontal folds; small tears on portions of some of the folds; and some uneven darkening scattered within. The color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading and this large-format "country of origin" UK poster is quite striking when viewed in person. Long considered lost, the British Film Institute's 1992 "Missing Believed Lost" campaign led to the recovery of a Swiss print. Although this carried the original English soundtrack, French and German subtitles and intertitles were burned-in. The film was released for the home market by Pathesceope in sound on 9.5mm as a six-reel version as well as a 9.5mm silent version released in four reels.
