Descripción del Artículo

Newspaper: Stars Stripes. Date: May 10, 1918. Prominent news stories include: Front page iconic illustration by C. LeRoy Baldrige of the Soldier and Statue of Liberty; Shipload of "Mother's Letters"; Two little Hun victims; Warfare in the movies; Kaiser calls bench warmers into play; Wally Wallgren comics. Condition: 8 pages, complete and intact. Good condition, with moderate wear as shown, fold wear and moisture stain. Comes folded or rolled, depending upon existing fold lines. Comments: Wally Wallgren and C. LeRoy Baldridge, the two-person art department of the World War I era military newspaper, The Stars and Stripes, created cartoons that took the newspapers motto to heart: By and For the Soldiers of the A. E. F. Their artistic styles and approaches were different, but as enlisted men who had been to the front lines, their cartoons resonated with their fellow soldiers reading the Official Newspaper of the American Expeditionary Forces, 1918-1919.
