DETAILS This is a female plug for the original factory GM 24-pin plug found on the radio wiring harness. Wiring pigtails of approximately 6 inches are attached. This would be plugged over your existing male radio plug in order to convert to an aftermarket radio. This was the only 24-pin plug offered by GM, so if you've counted 24 pins on your main connector, this is the one you need. (You may have a 12-pin connector too. It is an auxiliary input for rear seat audio, CD changer, On-Star, XM radio, DVD, etc. Your aftermarket radio will not be compatible with any of those options so there is no need for the female version of it. **See additional info below.) An extra wire for 12v switched power connection will be required. This is necessary because power turn-on for the factory radio is controlled through a data wire by the vehicle's computer, but your aftermarket radio will not be capable of communicating with the vehicle's computer. So you will need to provide a separate switched 12v wire. It should technically be red, but any wire will do. You will connect it to the red wire in your aftermarket radio's harness on one end and a 12v switched power source somewhere in your vehicle on the other end. Why isn't this wire included? Because you're not buying a complete installation kit. You're buying a plug to accommodate the wires that DO appear in the factory plug (and you want to avoid hacking off your original plug). Put more simply: our plug allows retention of your factory plug and there is no dedicated 12v switched wire in the factory plug, so a 12v switched wire in our plug would be useless. This style of plug was used on most Class 2 computer-integrated Buick, Chevy, GMC, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Saturn radios that were approximately 4 3/8 inches tall, starting in 2000. These plugs will have the aftermarket standard wire colors, so wire assignment is easily identified on them. (See the color chart in the pictures attached to this listing.) Simply snap this into place over the factory plug and mate up the wires with the like colors on your aftermarket radio harness. One other note: Our supplier sometimes casts the plug itself in a different color plastic. Obviously that has no impact on use. **Please note: use of this plug does not provide for retention of features in the vehicle like door chimes, steering wheel control, OnStar, etc. You will need to purchase interface modules for your aftermarket radio if you wish to retain features normally controlled by or played through the factory radio.
