Descripción del Artículo

This is a Sub Envelope w/ Black White Photo from the Electric Boat Company. It features the US Submarine Albacore. Please see my photos for a better idea of the state of the item. Please let me know if you have any questions or want more pictures! The USS Albacore (SS-218) was a Gato-class submarine of the U.S. Navy, commissioned in June 1942, and became one of the most successful and storied American submarines of World War II. Over 11 war patrols, Albacore was credited with sinking over 80,000 tons of Japanese shipping, including the aircraft carrier Taih?, a key part of the Japanese fleet during the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Her bold attacks, including deep-penetration strikes in heavily defended waters, earned her nine battle stars and a Presidential Unit Citation. Tragically, Albacore was lost with all hands in November 1944, likely struck by a mine off northern Japan. Her legacy endures as a symbol of courage, skill, and sacrifice in the silent service. The Electric Boat Company, founded in 1899 by Isaac Rice, is a pioneering American shipbuilding firm best known for its role in developing submarines for the United States Navy. Originally partnering with inventor John Philip Holland, the company built the Navy?s first commissioned submarine, the USS Holland (SS-1). Based in Groton, Connecticut, Electric Boat played a critical role in advancing submarine technology throughout the 20th century, from early diesel-powered designs to modern nuclear-powered vessels. Now a division of General Dynamics, it continues to be a leading builder of submarines, including the current Virginia-class and upcoming Columbia-class ballistic missile submarines.
