Descripción del Artículo

This item is a catalog according to the man who invented the "Sweeney System" of training mechanics. The back cover represents the diploma to Robert Davidson dated December 29, 1920. On the front cover is an illustration of the new school that was constructed across from the train station, at 200 Union Station Plaza in Kansas City Mo. The school was begun in 1908 in a smaller building at 15th Street, and then the building pictured was built across from Union Station. The building remains in use today although was not in the hands of Mr. Sweeney after 1929. He trained men to repair airplanes, tractors and automobiles using his system of hands on learning. There is a pink response form inside the catalog where a potential applicant may ask questions and refer friends. There is a slit near the top staple holding the catalog together. It is clear by the smudges it sat in a service station somewhere but certainly in collectible condition and very interesting reading. Mr. Sweeney had government contracts to teach the military and prided himself that in 60 days they were trained. The building had a pool and a theater and rooms in the upper floors for the students to sleep, dormitory style and showers and lavatories on each floor. There was a cafeteria, and a club room available to students as well as a player piano and Victrola. He touted that it cost $1,000,000 and it looks like it did. Sadly, he discriminated in regard to whom he would teach. We must collect 6% Pennsylvania Sales and Use Tax at checkout. Thanks for stopping by!
