Descripción del Artículo
Original 6.75 x 8.5 in. photo-illustrated program from a special one-day screening with a live organ score of the classic 1920's silent film comedy, THE GENERAL, released in 1927 by United Artists. Directed by Buster Keaton and Clyde Bruckman, when Union spies steal an engineer's (Buster Keaton) beloved locomotive, he
pursues it single-handedly and straight through enemy lines. The General is famous for having the most expensive single shot of any silent film (the wreck of the locomotive as it crosses a trestle bridge while it is on fire).
Held on Saturday, June 16, 2001 on the famed Santa Catalina Island as a benefit for the Catalina Island Museum Society, this soft cover booklet features 38 pages (including the outer buff cardstock covers), the majority which have nice photo illustrations from and about the film along with a shot of silent film organist/orchestrator, Robert D. Salisbury, who always does an outstanding job. There is also a one-page bio with photo on leading lady Marion Mack and a one and a half pages with a photo about the beautiful Catalina Casino. In very fine+ condition.
The screening was held at the beautiful Art Deco-inspired Avalon Theatre within the famed Casino Building, a playground where Hollywood came to work as well as relax.
