Vintage original 8.5 x 11 in. US souvenir book from the classic 1920's-themed musical comedy/romance, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, released in 1976 by Universal Pictures and directed by George Roy Hill, in which Millie Dillmount (Julie Andrews) comes to town in the roaring twenties to encounter flappers, sexuality, and white slavers. The cast includes Mary Tyler Moore, Carol Channing, James Fox, John Gavin, Beatrice Lillie, Jack Soo, Pat Morita, and Anthony Dexter. This souvenir book consists of 28 pages featuring beautiful black-and-white and full-color photographs as well as three full-page color spreads. It is in very fine condition without any missing pages, tears, stains, writing, or other flaws. Thoroughly Modern Millie was Final theatrical movie of Beatrice Lillie (Mrs. Meers). She was showing early signs of Alzheimer's disease and had trouble memorizing her lines. During filming, Julie Andrews stood off-camera and repeated Lillie's lines to her, so Lillie could complete her scenes. According to Mary Tyler Moore's autobiography "After All", Lew Wasserman had brought her to Universal Pictures after her unexpected success as a comic actress on The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961) with the hopes of making her "the next Doris Day" in light movie comedies. This was originally intended to be a movie of that type until Andrews came on-board, and only then did it become a musical that focused more on her. Also, Moore originally had a solo song that was cut from the final release. She said that she always thinks of the tap dancing scene in this film whenever she sees an elevator.
