Vintage photograph taken from Tiverton, Rhode Island in September of 1938 in the aftermath of one of the most devestating hurricanes ever to hit the northeast. Photo depicts the Railroad Bridge (which has since been demolished) that spanned the Sakonnet River, as well as the extensive damage along the shoreline of Island Park. Today, the same view would be somewhat obstructed by the Sakonnet River Bridge, nonexistant in 1938, as it was built in 1956. In that time, the old Stone Bridge was the only direct access route to Aquidneck Island. This fascinating photograph represents a unique view into a long gone era and would be a treasured addition to any collector of local nostalgia.
