U.S. ARMY, CIRCA 1884-1911, ARTILLERY, CORPORAL, CHEVRONS, LACE Gilt lace applied to scarlet wool construction. This matched set of lace chevrons were removed from a uniform. These were worn on the soldier's dress coats. These gilt laced chevrons were a departure from the wool chevrons that had served for both the service blouse and the dress coat since 1872, the addition of these gold lace chevrons dramatically improved the appearance of the dress uniforms. These chevrons were worn by an artillery corporal, indicated by the gold lace applied to a scarlet wool field. This matched set of chevrons were worn during the Spanish American War and Indian Wars.
