U.S. ARMY, WWI, M1917 CAMPAIGN HAT, LIEUTENANT, WITH CORD, MONTANA STYLE This M1917 Campaign Hat was made IAW Spec. No. 1289: Adopted December 21, 1917. Displays the iconic 'Montana' style. The crown is 5 3/4? in height. There are four ventilation eyelets remained at 3 inches from the base of the crown. There are five rows of mercerized cotton thread remained at the edge of the 3 inch wide brim. The eyelets for the flat braided tying cord remained 1 1/4 inches forward of the crown's center point; however they were moved back onto the brim, 1/4 inch from the base of the crown. The oblong eyelets are to accommodate the recently adopted 1/4 inch wide leather chinstrap. The chinstrap is missing. There is some wear damage to the backside of the ribbon. The leather sweat band is supple. Some of the stitching for the sweat band has detached. A few small moth nips to the front of the brim. Lieutenant pin back bar with open loop catch and false braid.
