Vintage original 8x10 in. US complete set of 8 mini lobby cards from the popular 1970's version of the classic horror/sci-fi adventure thriller, THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU, released in 1977 by American International Pictures (AIP) and directed by Don Taylor. Based upon the famous novel by H.G. Wells, a shipwrecked survivor (Michael York) discovers a remote island owned by a crazed scientist (Burt Lancaster) who is carrying out sinister experiments on the island's inhabitants. The cast includes Nigel Davenport, Barbara Carrera, Richard Basehart, Nick Cravat, The Great John L, and Bob Ozman. This complete set of 8 mini lobby cards is unrestored in very fine condition with only light signs of wear on the tips of the bottom right corners. There are no pinholes, tears, creases, stains, writing, or other flaws. This is the first English-language adaptation of H.G. Wells' novella to have the same title (the first English version was Island of Lost Souls (1932)). During the fight between the bullman and the tiger (which appears in lobby card #8 from this set), the animal actually took the stuntman's head in his jaws. Luckily he was wearing a fiberglass helmet which protected him. Barbara Carrera posed nude in Playboywith men wearing the humanoid makeup to promote the movie. The producers also exploited her sex appeal in publicity material by having her pose in skimpy bikinis against the backdrop of shooting location St. Croix in the Virgin Islands.
