Adoration of the Magi ? Albert Edelfelt ? Beautiful Catholic Art ? Archival Quality
We love how every artist has their own way of doing a picture. How many pictures have you seen of the Adoration of the Magi, and yet none of them look like this. Albert Edelfelt was one of the great artists of the 19th Century, and he was from Finland. One thing you can say about the Finns, they know what winter is like. And from this picture, we might suppose that winter is often a cozy time for them, as Mary and Jesus look so comfortable in the snowy woods. As does, for that matter, the three kings and the townsfolk behind them in their Marian procession. Albert Gustaf Aristides Edelfelt (1854-1905) was a prolific painter with a huge reputation. His father had died young, and his widowed mother raised their children under financial strain. He went to a Finnish art school as a teenager, and at age 19 he went to Paris, of course, and studied at the great Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He stayed in Paris for years after that, his realist painting gradually acquiring the softer touches of Impressionism. He achieved success in the Salons, especially with a painting of Louis Pasteur, which we plan to include later in our Heroes of Catholic Science series. Edelfelt also did a handful of other beautiful Catholic paintings which we hope to add to our collection. This painting we think dates later than most, and has an illustration style to it. ** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt. - Acid-free paper- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.- Cardboard backer- Above story of the art- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
